Solo with limited rhythmic subdivisions
This section of the course is divided into three levels. Scroll down the page to see the tabulature showing the rhythms for each exercise in each level. There is also a 'Guitar Pro' file of it that can be downloaded.
The rules for each level are the same as far as you can improvise any sequence of notes in the minor pentatonic, but you must stick to the rhythmic figure without pausing. The videos give a demonstration of this so you can see it in practice. For the first two bars I play the rhythmic figure using a single note so you can pick it out the rhythm clearly.
Please note that the video example are performed in the key of A, at 80bpm. You may wish to practice at a slower tempo particularly when using the Triplets and 16ths. Theses exercises can also be practiced with other scales or accidentals may be added, but we advise to stick to the minor pentatonic at least until each level is mastered.

Level 1
In this first level we are using one subdivision at a time.
Subdivision are as follows~
Level 2 |
|
This consists of playing Quarter notes for the first three beats of each bar and switching to another subdivision for the fourth beat of the bar.
Here are the combinations~
Level 3 |
|
|
For this level we are combining 8th notes with either Triplets or 16ths. You will notice how the Swung 8ths blend in the Triplets as the Straight 8ths blend with the 16ths. This is because the rhythmic grouping is the same within each pair of subdivisions.
Here are the two pairs~
