Welcome to the Lead Phrasing Course!
The course materials have been organised into three sections.
1. The Session Resources This section contains all the files you will need to take part in the improvisations at the group classes. There's not much to it, so look at this first and get to grips with the material. 2. Home Practice This will be your practicing companion for all your home practice during the course. There are three practice activities, and you are required to spend 20 minutes on each activity per day. A timer is provided for you on each page. There is also a weekly task which is your Artist Style Study - at some point during each week you should complete a questionnaire about your chosen artist. 3. The Theory Vault This section contains theoretical information for you to dip into during the course. We will bring this up during the course as it becomes relevant, so use it as a reference to gain the most benefit from the course. |

Course Overview
This course is primarily concerned with your soloing ability, so with that said we are mostly talking about your use of scale material.
To the right you can see a flow-chart which shows the development of a blues player from a complete novice to a master. (Click to enlarge for a closer look). If you are on this course, you should be past the foundation stage, and will probably be at the intermediate stage. As you can see, at this stage there are three main areas of skill which are related but can be worked upon separately. These are Ear Training, Articulation, and Pattern Learning. This course deals mainly with the first two, Ear Training and Articulation. Whatever skill level you are currently at, you will be practicing using targeted techniques designed to give you fast progress in these areas. The course will combine home study with group activities. To start with, visit the Home Practice page to discover what will be required of you during the first session. |
